January 5, 2021 Newsletter to Riverview Families

Due to our county moving to level orange, starting on January 11, our students who were in person or blended before we went remote, will return to in person instruction Mondays and Tuesdays and will receive remote services Wed.- Fri. When our county moves to the yellow level, students will return 4 days a week. (M/T and TH/F). The only students who will remain remote will be those who chose remote prior to the school closure in November. With most of our students returning 4 days a week in yellow, we are finding that the sustainability of the blended model may not last due to staffing and the need to have students on site as much as possible for in-person instruction and any intervention work that needs to happen as a result of the pandemic. This would also help us start moving towards a more “normal” school day and schedule when community transmission rates allow. We will be reaching out directly to our blended families as we finalize these decisions.

These decisions were made based on the Durango 9-R Matrix found  HERE.  The Durango 9-R Matrix was developed in conjunction with teachers and staff, based on available local and state data and guidance at that point in time. Shortly after the Durango 9-R Matrix was developed and released, the State of Colorado developed further guidance on how to effectively return students back to school. The task force will review this recommendation and determine if further adjustments to the 9-R Matrix are warranted on Thursday morning. Should there be any updates, we will communicate those changes as we become aware of them.

Note, due to state guidance and upcoming task force decisions on Thursday morning, we are postponing our Wednesday evening Community Meeting and PTO Meeting until we have more information. We will be sending out an updated meeting date when we know more. We are sorry for this inconvenience.

Finally, upon our return we will need families to make sure that their students return with any school materials (boxes of supplies, texts, etc.) that your teacher requires for in-person learning. Also, if a Chromebook was borrowed from Riverview, those will need to return on Monday as well. Some Chromebooks and supplies may need to go home on Tuesdays in order to participate in the remote portion of the week. This will be teacher dependent and will be communicated per classroom.

Please know it is our goal to get our students back to in-person learning as safely and quickly as possible. Thank you for the continued support of your children during this time of transition.  We are excited to welcome students back into the building next week and can’t wait to reconnect in person!  The work you’re doing to support your children at home doesn’t go unnoticed, and we appreciate you and your ongoing partnership!

Warm wishes as we enter 2021,
