Safety Update for 9-R Parents - December 17, 2021

We have become aware of another Tik Tok challenge, or trend, encouraging students to make poor choices at school today. There have been a number of different trends and challenges, and while this most recent one isn't very specific, it does identify school violence. While there is no direct threat to our schools, we are making all the necessary precautions to ensure a safe and fun last day for our students prior to the holiday break.

Durango School District 9-R and LPEA launch Colorado’s first vehicle-to-grid enabled electric school bus

Durango School District 9-R and La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) will today launch the area’s first electric – and Colorado’s first vehicle-to-grid (V2G) enabled – school bus. In February 2021, District 9-R was awarded a grant of $328,803 through the Regional Air Quality Council’s (RAQC) ALT Fuels Colorado program. Augmented with $120,000 from LPEA to cover electric charging infrastructure, the project is groundbreaking.

Safety and Wellness Reminders for Parents from 9-R - December 2021

We hope you and your family are doing well as we approach the upcoming break. We are so grateful for you and your family and all the efforts you have made to support in-person learning this year. In response to a recent tragedy in our community, and as the holiday season approaches, we want to take a moment to remind parents and students of Safe2Tell, share resources in the community for families, as well as encourage parents to be involved in their child’s online safety.

9-R School Board Public Forum - 9-R Administration Building Sale

The 9-R School Board is hosting a public forum on December 14, 2021 from 4pm - 5:15pm via Zoom to share the timeline for the process of the sale of the 9-R Administration Building, as well as hear comments from the community. Chief Hal Doughty of the Fire Department and Mayor Kim Baxter and City Council from the City of Durango will also participate.

November 2021 COVID-19 Summary

November was a whirlwind with the push to the holiday break. We hope our families enjoyed a little reprieve as we head into the two-week home stretch to the winter break. As families may be aware, our goal this year has remained the same, as we want to optimize student access to in-person learning while simultaneously promoting health and safety by minimizing the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The Durango School District 9-R has a goal of optimizing student access to in-person learning while simultaneously promoting health and safety by minimizing the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The many mitigation strategies suggested and supported by the CDPHE and our local health authorities play an important role in ensuring success with this goal.
