These changes bring real choices and trade-offs. They also give our community an opportunity to think carefully about what we want our schools to look like for the next generation.
That's why DSD is launching Future-Ready DSD, a new community awareness and engagement initiative designed to put the facts, planning information, community feedback, and opportunities to participate in one place.
Start with the big picture
The new Future-Ready DSD online hub helps answer some of the questions our community is asking:
- Why is enrollment declining?
- How do enrollment and funding affect the opportunities available to students?
- How do aging facilities factor into long-range planning?
- Why might school consolidation or boundary changes be considered?
- How can we make the best use of community resources while continuing to provide strong programs and learning environments?
- How can community members participate in future decisions?
The site includes data and infographics, frequently asked questions, planning documents, information about current and future discussions, and a feedback form for community members to share their perspectives.
A timely conversation
One decision is already before the Board of Education. The Board is considering a district recommendation to consolidate Sunnyside Elementary School with the new Three Springs Elementary School when it opens in fall 2028.
The Board has committed to making a decision about Sunnyside no later than its Sept. 22 Regular Meeting.
Future-Ready DSD provides the broader context behind that discussion while also looking well beyond any single school or decision. Long-range planning will continue over several years as DSD evaluates enrollment, school boundaries, facilities, educational opportunities, and how district resources can best support students.
