Riverview 2nd graders learn cycling safety

From mastering hand signals for turns and stops to navigating a miniature traffic light course, our students are becoming Creative Problem-Solvers on the road.

Safety was the top priority. Students learned how to protect their "brain power" with the two-finger helmet rule — making sure their helmets sit no more than two fingers above their eyebrows and that the straps are snug.

Special thanks to the City of Durango’s Multimodal Division, which organizes these local Safe Rides to School events with support from the Durango Police Department, CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital's Gray Matters Helmet Program, and Durango Devo.

Watching our younger learners transition from hesitant pedaling to confident cruising is what makes these hands-on experiences so special. Way to go, Riverview!
