it parents the nation's finest there Gators in Riverview just wanted to chat real quick lube out conversation that develops Geo meeting about knowing exactly what the curriculum is and how challenging it is to communicate that the parents I want to give you an example which might help I guess this conversation disorder My Philosophy traditional product based curriculum Where is the students move up in grade the complexity of the performance indicators or the what we expect them to be able to do increases rides at state is standard and we do the same for every student at the same time then you'll have something like this happen which doesn't feel like an equitable way to look at learned by the end of kindergarten after two semesters all students are expected to know this amount according to standards if we look at them from a standard centered approach you know that the kindergarten not every child is there my kids away up here all ready by the end of kindergarten and yes you can see that this just increases as they grow an age as a complexity of the curriculum increases if we taught every student the same thing there's actually where our classes and this is what might happen if we taught every child the same thing and expect them to perform at the same rate through the standards you can see how unfair this would be this is actually kind of where our class ended up with reading I'm just grade-level text at the beginning of the year so you can see these 20 literacy ability to read by third grade this is the gap in our classroom so that's our class this year by the end of the year this is where we at if we teach a product-based or standard centered approach and separate child Center Road for this group of kids that be totally inappropriate to expect that also for this this this group of kids that were able to already be there before or ahead of the rest of us that would be Equitable so when I look at it this way if we teach the same thing to everybody at the same time if my especially this year for about or buy more students which means 2/3 of our students wouldn't have an appropriate curriculum Pace or expectations so if you look at it this way I hope this explains why we don't have a syllabus because we like to try the approach where we get to North soon as well enough so that today I'm making observations about a mathematician so that tomorrow I can get them the right skill practice for the right conceptual understanding that might be more fun dividing fractions for kids up here and for kids down here it might be still working on our addition facts so that we know all our facts to 10 with fluency so I just wanted to show you this and explain why it's really challenging to compare all kids to the same standards and also what a disservice it would be if we talk the same thing to every student once so hopefully this helps makes it a little bit of sense and I just want to say thanks yesterday was our Thanksgiving lunch and it was awesome to see the the birthday in the presence of our parents here to school we got a great class and I can't thank you enough have a great Thanksgiving break
