January P.E. Post

K-2

In K-2 we started our dribbling unit. We have been working on some ball control skills along with our dribbling skills. We have also talked about Muscular Strength and Muscular Endurance, Cardiorespiratory Endurance and Flexibility. You can ask your child the find their pulse on their body, have them count while you watch a clock for 6 seconds. Next they can add a “0” to the end of their number and that tells them how many times their heart is beating in 1 minute. Next we will work on scoops and balls and then volleying and striking. We volley with balloons and strike balls on the ground.

3-5

We started our basketball unit on Monday and Tuesday. 3rd grade will work on skills and play some lead up games. 4th and 5th grade will work on skills for two classes and then we will play basketball for two classes. Towards the end of the month 4th and 5th graders will start the archery unit! This is one of the most anticipated units for 4th and 5th graders of the year. The 3rd graders do not do archery, instead they will play some filler games before we start volleyball. The filler games are fun games that involve skills and strategies that we have been learning so far this year in P.E.

We started learning about the 5 Components of Health Related Fitness. They are: Cardiorespiratory Endurance, Muscular Endurance, Muscular Strength, Flexibility, and Body Composition. Improving these 5 components will help you stay healthy.
