October 2021 Newsletter to Riverview Families

We would like to give a gigantic thank you to our PTO for sponsoring our amazing FUN RUN!!!! We can’t express enough how grateful we are for your support! We would also like to thank the local Corporate Sponsors who gave such generous donations!

Conferences: We look forward to connecting with our families. Look for information from your child’s teacher regarding Fall Conferences.

    We Need Your Apples!

During the week of October 18-22, students will be pressing apples to make (and drink) apple cider during science class and connecting this activity with our current science investigations.  For every student in the school to be able to participate, we will need A LOT of apples!  If you have an apple tree or access to one, please consider bringing in a bag, box, bucket, or truckload of apples.  Apples with worm holes or bruises are fine for making cider and all apples will get washed right before pressing.  They can be dropped off in front of the school by the front door or taken to the science lab anytime between October 11-22 (the sooner the better) and we’ll store them until pressing time.  If you have any questions, please email Mr. Love at [email protected].

Third and Fourth Graders Headed to Hermosa Creek

Next week (October 11th and 15th), we will be collaborating with Mountain Studies Institute and San Juan Mountain Association to conduct field studies in the 416 Wildfire burn scar.  Topics will include fire science, fire ecology, food webs, life cycles, plant and animal adaptations, impacts on the riparian ecosystem, etc.  Thanks so much to MSI and SJMA for facilitating this wilderness learning experience!

CREW Update: We just introduced Riverview’s Character Habits; Responsibility, Perseverance, Collaboration and Compassion. We have been talking about what these look like in our classrooms, homes and community. We will be practicing these habits all year long. Our hope is that once these skills become habits students will grow as community members and continue to develop interpersonal and leadership skills. We are already seeing our students embrace these habits. Go CREW!

Attendance: Parents, please call the school to let us know if your student is going to be absent. We will then update their daily status in Infinite Campus. You can also request to complete our Pre-Arranged Absence form when you know of an upcoming absence for your student.  Thanks for your patience as we are having some staffing adjustments in our school office.

National School Lunch Week:

Did you know the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day in cafeterias, classrooms and, when necessary, even at home? Join us in celebrating #NSLW21 October 11–15 to highlight the importance of school lunch and the critical role school nutrition professionals play in helping children succeed in and out of the classroom.
